Red and the wolf
They've got it wrong. Wolf isn't my enemy. Wolf didn't eat my grandma. Wolf protects me. Wolf is me. We change bodies whenever we want. Wolf protects me. Wolf is my partner.

The forest is a very dangerous place to live. There an enemies on every side of you. Dangers lurk in every splotch of darkness. I didn't stay here on purpose. No, an evil witch put a spell on me that I would have to live out my days in this forest. It was my home now. I couldn't leave. I was scared at first. I spent my days sobbing. I can't count how many times I almost died. I was completely alone. Then I met Wolf.

We didn't get along at first. He took me to his pack and I knew sooner or later they would eat me. The pack went hunting often. Wolf was my babysitter. He often sat on my cape to keep me from running away. I never tried to run away. Where would I go? This place was better then any other places in this forest. I touched Wolf's fur one day. He was almost begging for it, the way he lay, the way the light played with his white fur. As I touched his fur something happened. We both felt it. Wolf tensed and snapped at my hand. I felt sudden joy, sure I had found a friend.

I could talk to Wolf. I could feel things Wolf could feel. I could see how Wolf saw. Wolf didn't want to be my friend at first. He didn't like feeling the human side of things. It helped us though. Wolf became softer and more careful. I became powerful. No longer scared. Sometimes it was bad. Wolf would see too much of a human in a thing and he couldn't fight. He would cry at nights. I would be too harsh. The wolf in me burst free and I left all reason behind. We have perfected this. We are more careful now.

I still remember the first time when Wolf and I switched places. I woke up in his body and he mine. I was very confused at first. I didn't work like I normally did. My senses were too strong. I tried to stand up but I couldn't. I looked over to see myself. I was on the floor, still sleeping. I wasn't alarmed by this. I was happy. Wolf would have to stick with me now. I saw my eyes crack open. Wolf (in my body) shot up and landed right on his bum. I wanted to laugh but I couldn't. Instead I gave a toothy grin.
"Is that what I look like?" Wolf asked. It surprised us both. Wolf could talk! He demanded for us to turn back and we did. But we understood each other better. Yes we were connected in a real sense. But something about being in someone else's body can deepen that. Wolf decided to give me a chance.

He trained me. We talked. His pack threw us out but we were a pair now. He still lay near me every night to keep me warm. We traded bodies multiple times and used to learn them well. Wolf became everything to me. He wouldn't say anything of his feelings and I worried. Would I have to be alone the rest of my life?

One night I saw Wolf with blood on his fangs. He had left me with his pack, but I followed him. I saw him feasting on something. I was quick to get out of sight but he saw me. We switched bodies then. I spat out the blood. Even with the full belly Wolf had I could still feel the hunger.
"I have to eat." He said in my body.
Not like this Wolf! You would eat... your friend? I thought to him.
"I was hungry. I couldn't help it."
Have I taught you nothing?
I later asked him if he would eat me if he was starving. He said no.

Once my dad came looking for me. Wolf and I found him... barely alive. We nursed him back to health. He expressed joy in seeing me. But, when he saw Wolf, he pushed away. He couldn't understand how I could have a relationship with a beast. Wolf wasn't a beast, I told him. He wouldn't believe me. Wolf stayed away from me during that time. He would wait until I was asleep to come back. When I didn't fall asleep he didn't come back. It was weird to be with my dad again. Twelve years it had been. Our relationship was there no more. My dad finally decided to leave. He asked me to go home with him. I said no. I said I'd rather be with Wolf. My dad left without saying goodbye.
Maybe I was less human because of Wolf. Or maybe I knew that Wolf was the one I wanted to be with till I died.

Wolf loved me. He told me so. I told him the same. We married by the oak tree. It was told that the powers of the tree crossed over to us. I felt loved. I became sad at the thought of not having children of my own. It almost tore us apart. I got over it in the end. As long as I had Wolf.
